BOARD OF WATER COMMISSIONERS
Meeting held on May 28, 2013 at 8:15 a.m.
Present: Chairman Donald Bates, Vice Chairman Allin Thompson, Clerk Danette Gonsalves, Superintendent Craig Wiegand, Comptroller Sandra Cummings, Office Assistant/secretary Anna Brigham. Also in attendance was Selectman Angelo LaMantia.
Chairman Donald Bates called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.
The minutes for the meeting held on May 14, 2013 were approved with a motion by Clerk Gonsalves and seconded by Vice Chairman Thompson; 3-0-0. Minutes were signed.
Board discussed Old Business
Superintendent Craig Wiegand stated the Inter-municipal Agreement with Brewster will be emailed to the Board members for their review. There are a few residents on Wayside Drive who will be on Brewster Water system.
Superintendent Craig Wiegand gave an update on National Grid matter. Another meeting is scheduled for today. In order to try to streamline the process, we are asking that highway notification happen before we get the request. Selectman Angelo LaMantia reminded everyone that the Town Administrator will be out of the position soon and we need to keep his replacement in the loop.
Abatement procedures still pending.
The Seasonal Employees matter is still pending. Superintendent Craig Wiegand told our past summer employees to find alternative employment. Selectman Angelo LaMantia said with our jump in water consumption/population, we could justify additional seasonal employees.
Board discussed the Dig It application. References were checked and positive feedback was received. Clerk Danette Gonsalves made a motion to add contractor to our list. Chairman Donald Bates seconded. All in favor.
Board discussed New Business. Comptroller Sandra Cummings discussed Consumption spreadsheet. Compared the data and stated that temperature alters consumption. Projections were discussed.
Superintendent Craig Wiegand discussed contract with Polaris. We will take $55,000 from two past articles for design. The plan is to get the foundation in before winter. Called Northwest Gate Plan.
Selectman Angelo LaMantia discussed the hiring of new town administrator. Committee will have three names by 6/15 to interview. There may be a need to hire an Interim Administrator.
Vice Chairman Allin Thompson gave a brief update on contract negotiations. Next meeting is June 12, 2013. Town offered 2%. Superintendent Craig Wiegand discussed the need to educate the Union on what Enterprise Fund means.
Board asked about customer complaints or compliments. Not many complaints about water discoloration this year. Department received a compliment about Jason and the speed and politeness after the customer hit the water meter while moving furniture.
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
Clerk Gonsalves moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 a.m. and seconded. 3-0-0.
