Perfluorinated Compounds (PFAS)

There has been much media attention recently regarding PFAS on the Cape and we would like to alleviate any concern about the Harwich water system.  Under the EPA's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule 3, the Department tested for PFAS in late October of 2015 and all samples were negative for these substances.  The link below contains all 5 lab reports, one for each wellfield.  The sampling was conducted for 6 specific Perfluorinated compounds identified on the results page.

Perfluorinated Compounds October 2015 Lab Results

When looking at the results please note the following definitions:

MRL- Minimum Reporting Level

ug/L – Microgram per Liter  1 ug/L = 1 ppb (part per billion)

There are many other ways people can be exposed and/or ingest PFOS/PFAS compounds including non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, heating food in treated containers, & food grown in areas where PFOS/PFAS can be found in soil/water.
