Harwich Water Department - Frequently Asked Questions
Know Your Meter Reader
Meter readers for the Harwich Water Department are in your neighborhood
biannually. Here's what you should know about your meter reader:
- All meter readers carry a Water Department photo I.D. and
drive an official department vehicle.
- Water Department meter
readers read your meter from outside your home or business.
They may enter your backyard to access your meter, but they
will
never enter your home unless you ask us to or we have requested permission
in advance.
- Meter readers will never request or collect payment for water
bills at your residence.
Meter readers use a handheld computer to read your meter. This
ensures that you are accurately billed for the water you use. If
your water usage has increased substantially, we'll leave a notice
advising you to check for leaks. If there is a large decrease in
water usage, we'll make sure your meter is measuring correctly
by briefly turning on an accessible hose or spigot.
If you have any questions about Water Department employees on
