HARWICH AND CHATHAM STUDENTS AND TEACHERS
PREPARE TO GET WET
The Harwich Water Department and the Cape Cod Groundwater Guardian
Team are sponsoring an all day water festival to be held Friday,
June 7, 2002, at the Harwich Community Center.
This water festival will introduce approximately 300 fourth and
fifth grade students and teachers from Harwich and Chatham to the
joys of water. Barnstable County provides funding for this project.
The Harwich Water Festival follows other similar and highly successful
events held in other Cape schools over the past few years. This
year's festival will incorporate 24 different hands-on activities
that focus on water, including "Raindrop Journey", "Edible Aquifers", "Enviroscapes", "Flush
the Kids", "Water Cycle Bracelets", "Bubble People", and more.
Other favorites are "Water Cycle Terrarium", in which students
will build self-watering ecosystems, and "Where Rivers Meet the
Sea", in which students will learn about the interface between
fresh and salt water. More than 40 professionals from environmental
agencies on Cape Cod and Massachusetts, including the AmeriCorps-Cape
Cod team, have volunteered to help put on this festival.
Members of the press are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
