DETECT-A-LEAK WEEK 2002
May 6 - May 11
When there's a leak, you pay for water you never use. We urge
you to take time this week to check for leaks in plumbing fixtures,
irrigation systems, and other water-using equipment. Fixing leaky
fixtures saves dollars!
HERE'S HOW TO DETECT LEAKS ON YOUR PROPERTY...
- Turn off all your water faucets, pipes, and other water-using
fixtures to make sure no water is running.
- Locate your water
meter, which should be in your basement or meter pit.
- Check
to see if the dial is moving (open the cover, if you have a
pit meter). If it is moving, you have a leak! Replace
the cover and rotate
it to secure
it.
- Check toilets, faucets, pipes, and other fixtures for possible
leaks. Also, check your lawn area for wet spots or areas where
the grass seems
greener than
the rest of the lawn. This could indicate a leaking underground pipe.
- Please
call a plumber and have the leak repaired as soon as possible.
Remember,
water
leaks mean money down the drain!
