Water Commissioner Meeting Minutes
July 11, 2006
Present: Chairman Donald T. Bates Jr., Vice Chairman Danette Gonsalves,
Clerk George Cavanaugh, Superintendent Craig Wiegand, Secretary

Meeting called to order at 8:27 AM by Chairman Bates.
Discussion regarding the Water Department truck parked the wrong
way outside of the East Harwich Dunkin Donuts. A picture was taken
of the truck and several phone calls were made to Town Hall complaining
about the situation. The picture was emailed to Superintendent
Wiegand. He informed Board members that there will be a staff meeting
Friday, July 14 concerning this, as well as other, issues.
Board reviewed progress of the hydrant replacement program. Superintendent
Wiegand discussed the plan to have the crew replace two hydrants
per week. The goal is to replace 55 hydrants by the end of the
summer.
Spuerintendent Wiegand sent specification out to have wells 8 & 9
pumps and motors replaced with submersible pumps. He is waiting
on several quotes from contractors which should arrive within the
next week.
Superintendent Wiegand has prepared the RFP for new generators
at stations 1, 2, 7, & 11 and plans to have the RFP on the street
within the next week. The work will commence at the end of the
summer pumping season.
There are currently 7 water services being replaced on Hoyt Road
which is being completed by Robert B. Our. The contract price is
$9,000.00.
Superintendent Wiegand updated the Board on the various water
main projects they hope to complete this year. He is currently
waiting on the prices before they are to begin.
Board members reviewed and approved copies of the Bid Award letters
which will be sent out to the companies within the next week.
The Board reviewed and approved a copy of the letter to be sent
to the Board of Selectmen regarding the possible contamination
of drinking water by the chemical Perchlorate, which is usually
found in fireworks and explosives. The letter discusses a solution
to the concern of Percholorate and its effect on the Cranberry
Festival fireworks. Solution should be paid for by the Cranberry
Festival Committee.
Donald Bates proposed that the Board of Health be added to the
Cc. of the letter.
Superintendent Wiegand updated the Board about the situation regarding
Mr. Harris. Town Council had notified Superintendent Wiegand, explaining
that his attorney was drafting paperwork with a written decision
as to what should be done. Once received, copies will be emailed
to all Board members.
Next meeting to be held on July 25, 2006.
August meetings scheduled for August 8th and August 25th.
