HARWICH WATER DEPARTMENT
Water Commissioner Meeting Minutes
June 15, 2004
Present: Chairman Donald T. Bates, Jr., Vice Chairman Danette
Gonsalves, Clerk George Cavanaugh, Superintendent Craig Wiegand,
Senior Administrative Assistant Deborah A. Fuller
Chairman Bates called the meeting to order at 8:30 AM.
Mr. Donald Gould of Sparrowhawk Road would like to develop his
property which is approximately 750 ft. from the road. The owner
would like to hook into town water depending upon the cost. Previously,
the plans showed only one house, now they have sub-divided the
property into 2 lots. Chief Remillard of the Harwich Fire Department
expressed the importance of having town water so as to provide
fire protection. The Planning Board has also issued regulations
stating that when a sub-division is established, the developer
is required to install town water with either a dry or wet main,
and the necessary hydrants. The homeowner stated the cost of the
project will determine whether he installs town water, and he will
investigate further.
The minutes of the June 01, 2004, meeting were approved unanimously.
Abatements approved for services #0204, 0001, 7689, and 3708.
Abatement for property at 46 Rainbow Way denied.
Main expansion - The Harwich Water Department will be upgrading
mains in the same areas that the town is upgrading the roads, which
will include Bank St., and Parallel Street areas.
We will also be upgrading and refurbishing well #6. If we receive
the grant from Cape Light Compact we will also include an upgrade
of well #5.
Plans also include changing out 52 hydrants and exercising hydrants
throughout the town. This will allow us to establish an updated
hydrant replacement program.
New tank construction will begin in July, 2004.
Harwich Water Department will be notifying customers of the improvements
in a newsletter in the next billing.
Perchlorate sampling will be taken at random locations as a special
project. We will then determine what actions need to be taken,
and at what time.
July meeting dates set for 07/06/04 and 07/20/04.
Meeting adjourned at 9:02 AM.
